The LGBTI world is talking about an Iraqi actor murdered for ‘looking gay’, a gay orgy in the Vatican and how a gay teen became prom queen

We’re looking forward to Pride in both Bristol and London this weekend. But we’ve also been reminded of why our community is important by a murder in Iraq. And we’ve been talking about gay life in the Vatican and an amazing young man who became prom queen.

This actor was kidnapped, tortured and murdered because of the way he looked

Actor Karar Noshi had so much going for him – talent, looks, a degree from Baghdad University’s College of Fine Arts and a great sense of style.

Many called him the ‘Beauty King of Iraq’.

But his long blond hair and ‘gay’ looks got him enemies.

He was kidnapped, tortured and his viciously stabbed body dumped on a street in central Baghdad.

His family said his murder indicated that Islamic State attitudes were thriving in the city, even if IS is now losing territory in the region.

It’s tragic to have lost this young man – whose sexuality we do not know – to blind hate.

Vatican police break up gay orgy in Cardinal’s apartments

Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio (pictured) was out one night when something surprising happened in his apartments in the Vatican.

A priest who he recommended to become a bishop apparently decided to throw a gay orgy there.

Vatican Police raided the party after neighbors complained about the noise.

It is another example of the Catholic Church’s hypocrisy on homosexuality. They try to ban it, they persecute and bully LGBTIs, but they are all up to stuff behind closed doors.

There are a very few people in the world who don’t want sex and don’t care much about it. But they aren’t selected on faith.

And for the rest of us, trying to bottle up our sexuality through celibacy or chastity just doesn’t work. Why should it and how could it? It’s one of the things evolution designed our bodies to do.

We’ve long known the Vatican is just nasty around LGBTI people. Now we’re reminded again they are hypocrites too.

But what do you think? Am I being too harsh?

Gay man tells the moment he got elected homecoming queen

Back in 2009, Che-Che Turrubiartez was just another gay kid in a Chicago high school who assumed that people would want to beat him for his sexuality.

But then something amazing happened when he plucked up the courage to stand for prom queen.

He says:

‘And the principal comes up on stage. They announce third place, it’s not me. I’m thinking, okay, cool second place, that’s awesome. They announce second place and it’s not me. At which point, I’m just like, holy shit, what?

‘Then the principal’s like, “And this year, your homecoming queen is…”

‘And then people just start chanting my name. And I’m just like, oh my god, shivers are going through my spine, my skin and I feel so excited. I’m like, “I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do.”

‘I was scared that someone was going grab me and just punching at me. But as soon as I saw all those people being happy for me – oh my god, it was the most insane feeling.

‘That night, I had about more than 10, 15 people come out to me. I didn’t know there was that many queer people at the school.’

Turrubiartez had learnt a lesson young that we should all remember. Show your Pride and you can be a role model. Stand up and amazing things will happen to you.

What better weekend to start living by that than this one?
